In-Home Support Services

If you or a loved one has a disability or impairment, you can apply for in-home support services (IHSS). This program offers services within the comfort of one’s own home, so you don’t have to send a loved one to a nursing home or other care facility or enter one yourself.

Consumers of IHSS may appeal any denial or reduction in hours and services, including a refusal to allow the full number of hours the consumer feels he or she needs. Consumers also have a right to appeal share-of-cost (SOC) determinations (a decision asking that consumers pay a share of the cost of in-home care because their income is above the Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, threshold.)
