In-Home Support Services
If you or a loved one has a disability or impairment, you can apply for in-home support services (IHSS). This program offers services within the comfort of one’s own home, so you don’t have to send a loved one to a nursing home or other care facility or enter one yourself.
At Leigh Law Group, our clients come first. We charge reduced or low-cost fees to help families and other providers obtain IHSS. Our experienced attorneys can guide you through the application and appeals process. We are committed to protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities.
We Can Help You Apply For IHSS
IHSS assistance includes:
- Cleaning
- Cooking
- Laundry
- Shopping
- Personal care
- Protective supervision
With IHSS, you can feel confident that your loved one is safe and well-cared for. This process applies to families with disabled children and to adults with disabilities who want to live independently, but need support.
However, applying for IHSS can be a detailed process. You must determine eligibility and assess needs. Usually, a caseworker evaluates the situation, but our attorneys can assist you throughout the process. We can also evaluate your need to provide you with personal advocacy.
Representing You In IHSS Appeals
Consumers of IHSS may appeal any denial or reduction in hours and services, including a refusal to allow the full number of hours the consumer feels he or she needs. Consumers also have a right to appeal share-of-cost (SOC) determinations (a decision asking that consumers pay a share of the cost of in-home care because their income is above the Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, threshold.)
Since the timelines required for an appeal are short, it is important to hire an attorney to preserve your services when you are notified of a reduction or of any change to your IHSS hours. The attorneys at Leigh Law Group have extensive experience representing individuals with disabilities, and our experience can help obtain the best possible results.
